5 Podcasts About Friendship
You know what they say: Relationships may come and go, but friendships never will. But that doesn’t mean friendships don’t take work to maintain! Check out these podcasts for advice and humor about the ins and outs, and ups and downs, of adult friendships.
1. Best Friends (Nicole Byer & Sasheer Zamata)
Listening to Byer and Zamata’s back-and-forth on Best Friends gives exactly what the title suggests: The humor and joy of a candid conversation between real life best friends. On the podcast, the pair talk about their lives, friendship, and the topics (and tribulations) that keep them connected, directly offering friendship advice to their listeners. It’s like they say: “Gayle & Oprah. Bonnie & Clyde. Nicole & Sasheer. Enter the pantheon of best friendship… you’re going to need a best friend… and if you don’t, you can still have this podcast.”
2. Here to Make Friends (Liz Feldman & Jessi Klein)
Are you looking to make friends as an adult, but don’t quite know how to pull it off? You’re not alone! On “Here to Make Friends,” writer-comedian-producer extraordinaires Liz Feldman and Jessi Klein address the subject of finding and maintaining adult friendship head-on, speaking candidly about friendships with guests who they are (or really really want to be) friends with. The first episode drops tomorrow, so consider this your sign to get in on the ground floor of a new podcast by, for, and about friends.
3. Call Your Girlfriend (Aminatou Sow & Ann Friedman)
An oldie but a goodie, Call Your Girlfriend is a podcast hosted by friends living on opposite ends of the U.S. who discuss friendship, pop culture, politics and feminism. The podcast celebrates female friendship, ultimately serving as a way for two friends to stay in touch, and in turn encourage other long-distance friends to do the same. In 2020, the Sow and Friedman published the book Big Friendship: How We Keep Each Other Close, a book about the role of adult friendship in society and in our individual lives.
4. Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendship (Nina Badzin)
Since 2021, writer Nina Badzin has hopped on the mic every week to offer candid advice on the subject of friendship. The former friendship advice columnist (and current friendship newsletter writer) answers anonymous questions from listeners about relatable topics including the importance of close friendships, how to make friends through common interests and activities, how to have difficult conversations with friends, and tons of other questions about the ins-and-outs of adult friendship.
