Halloween Icebreakers That Are Actually Fun

Having an office or Zoom Halloween party at work? Are you having a gathering with some new people to celebrate the holiday and want to start the night off right? Here are some Halloween-themed icebreakers that are actually fun! Let’s save the cringe and awkward silences for another night, shall we?

  1. What is a costume that you’ve always wanted to dress up as for Halloween, but haven’t gotten the chance to yet?

  2. What was your candy-eating or candy-sorting process when you were a kid?

  3. When was the last time you went trick-or-treating? Tell me about that!

  4. What do you think is the optimal age-cap for trick-or-treating (e.g at what age do you think folks should stop trick-or-treating)? (Note: this one may start quite the debate!)

  5. Growing up, do you remember the craziest or best thing you received trick-or-treating? Were there any houses/apartments in your neighborhood that did or gave out anything special?

  6. What do you think is a candy or treat that doesn’t get enough love on Halloween? What would you add to peoples’ holiday treat repertoire?

  7. Candy corn - yay or nay? (Note: another heated debate potential!)

  8. What’s a costume you’ve seen someone wear that has really stuck with you?

  9. What was a Halloween experience or memory that you really enjoyed? Tell me about it!

  10. Rank these Halloween movies: Hocus Pocus; The Nightmare Before Christmas; Rocky Horror Picture Show; Scream; The Addams Family (Note: feel free to swap the movies for other favorites!)

  11. What is a Halloween tradition or activity you love that you’ve either a) carried on from childhood or b) started in adulthood?

  12. Corn Maze or Haunted House?

  13. What’s your preferred Halloween style: scary or zany/quirky?

  14. Quick game: have everyone think of a (brief) plot of a Halloween movie that they’ve made up, and have them write it down on a slip of paper anonymously. Then, gather the slips of paper and read them out one by one while the group guesses who wrote it. (Note: this is better for a group of people who are a little more comfortable with each other)

  15. Rank these Halloween songs: Monster Mash; I Put A Spell On You; Thriller; This Is Halloween (Note: feel free to swap out the songs for other favorites!)

What are some fun Halloween icebreakers or games that have worked well for your crowd?
