How to Celebrate Halloween With Friends

It’s T-minus two weeks to Halloween and Spooky Season is in full swing. Leaves are falling, pumpkin spice is latte-ing, and regardless of the weather, there’s an unmistakable, supernatural chill in the air. If horror movies have taught us anything, it’s that the best way to ward off ghosts and ghouls is to abide by the buddy system, so grab some friends and try out these five ideas for a spooktacular-ly social Halloween!

Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree

Who’s that knocking on your door? No one, because the super spooky jack-o-lantern on your front porch scared them away! Along with corn mazes and apple picking, carving funny faces into pumpkins is a quintessential fall activity, and one that doesn’t demand a four-season climate to do. Gather your friends, grab some gourds, and get carving. And don’t forget to save the seeds! Roast ‘em with salt and olive oil for a bonus autumn treat.

Go to a Haunted House

Ward off the Sunday Scaries with something even scarier… a trip to a haunted house! A Halloween haunting can come in many forms: A seasonal haunted house, a corn maze, a hayride, or even a trip to a real-life spooky spot. Assuming your own house isn’t crawling with ghosts — though if it is, there are resources to help — a group outing to a haunted house is a great way to dip your toes into the spirit world before the clock strikes midnight on October 31st.

Scary Movie Marathon

Celebrate spooky season from the comfort of your (not haunted) house! Television channels and streaming services are presently inundated with horror flicks and Halloween classics. Ranging in fear factor from It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and The Nightmare Before Christmas to Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street, there’s no shortage of films to get you and your friends in the seasonal spirit. Pop some popcorn and press play… if you dare!

Host a Costume Party

What’s Halloween if not an annual excuse to flex your creative muscles, come up with a fun costume, and celebrate the holiday by dressing up with your friends? If you don’t have plans for one of this year’s two aptly-named “Halloweekends,” consider this your sign to throw a party of your own. It’s time to embrace your inner trick-or-treater. Put up some decorations, stock up on candy, and send out some invitations. Forget the “Monster Mash.” This year, you’re hosting a Monster Bash

Hand Out Candy

They say you should be the change that you want to see in the world. But when it comes to Halloween, be the house that hands out full-sized candy bars that the kids in your neighborhood want to see in the world! Bonus points if you dress up in a fun costume the kiddos and their guardians will recognize.
