We just had a paper published about us and we couldn’t be more stoked about the results!

A researcher from Boston University heard about Skip the Small Talk and, in her words, “Just had to study it.” In her study, she found that online Skip the Small Talks…

  • Reduce loneliness

  • Improve mood

  • Help people feel less socially anxious

And that’s not all— 100% of guests who said they went into the event hoping to feel less lonely said that they did, in fact, end up feeling less lonely after the event! And 100% of guests who said they went into the event hoping to feel less anxious accomplished that goal, too. So if you’re hoping to either feel less lonely or feel less socially anxious, we’re confident in saying that our events are likely to be pretty great for you!

But our favorite tidbit from the study was that the more depressed a guest was coming into the event, the bigger their improvement in mood after the event. So if you come to a Skip the Small Talk feeling pretty depressed, you’re likely to feel a lot better afterward! We love that because a lot of folks come into our events in a bad mood and therefore pretty skeptical that they’re going to have a good time, and this research suggests that it might be those very people who may actually get the most out of Skip the Small Talk!

Feel free to check out the full paper here. Much thanks to Dr. Jasmine Mote for her incredible work! If you’re into the idea of a mood boost, a reduction in loneliness, a reduction in social anxiety, a way to make new friends, or just a fun and novel way to spend an hour or two, you can check out our future events here.
